The ICBI Association is the scientifically leading, globally active society for biological ceramic implantology — it unites Europe, the Americas, and Asia under one roof. Its members rank among the most experienced clinicians in the world: at the very top, they have been placing ceramic implants for some three decades and have collectively placed well over one hundred thousand ceramic implants.
Together with the leading figures of the first Consensus Conference on ceramic implants — Nice 2025 — the ICBI has set itself a clear goal: what has long been empirically visible in daily practice — the biological, immunological, and esthetic superiority of ceramic implants — must now be complemented by scientific evidence. Creating that evidence is the task the ICBI has taken upon itself.

Tasks & GOALS.
The ICBI takes a different path from the established professional societies — and a better one. As a young, internationally oriented scientific foundation with no legacy baggage, it is building itself as an AI-native organization that connects science, education, and community across three continents. Its declared aim: to become the most significant international organization for biological ceramic implantology — through exceptional quality in everything it does.
Through scientific publications, the annual Global Congress, and recurring consensus conferences that shape the standard of the field.
Scientific continuing education as the core — regionally and thematically differentiated, markedly better and more biologically grounded than the usual offering.
As a point of differentiation from the established societies, and as a tool that scales science, education, and community.
The next generation of young clinicians and the established, experienced ones — joined into a single community through a scientific mentorship and partnership program.

Three Levels. ONE BODY OF EVIDENCE.
The scientific work of the ICBI rests on three levels that build upon one another. Together they close the gap between the clinically long-visible superiority of ceramic implants and its formal scientific evidence — creating, for the first time, a body of data that is comparable across systems, regulatorily viable, and durably robust.
Consensus Conference — Nice 2025
More than thirty of the world's best-known scientists in the field systematically captured the current state of knowledge — and named the decisive gaps in the evidence. Six manuscripts, accepted for the IJOMI Special Edition, form the foundation on which everything else is built.
Retrospective Multicenter Study
As one of the most extensive retrospective analyses ever conducted on ceramic implants, it evaluates roughly 450 immediate implants from three centers — placed between 2015 and 2020, a minimum of five years in situ. For the first time, it converts more than 25 years of clinical experience into robust, standardized evidence.
Prospective Multicenter Study
The consensus protocol is applicable to every ceramic implant system — those on the market today and those yet to come. It unites all relevant research questions in a single study, satisfies the regulatory requirements (PMCF / PMS), and makes the data comparable across systems for the first time. Within ten years, this will produce a body of data that matches titanium implantology in quality and scope — and surpasses it.
Methodology. PRECISION AS PRINCIPLE.
Three centers, ~120 immediate implants each, placed 2015–2020, min. five years in situ; immediate implants exclusively.
Implant survival, implant success, marginal bone level from standardized radiographs in routine follow-up.
Cross-sectional analysis of peri-implant parameters after min. five years: probing depths, bleeding on probing, radiographic bone loss, non-inflammatory buccal recessions.
Longitudinal long-term outcomes + valid cross-sectional data on peri-implant inflammation prevalence; commencing upon ethics approval.
Precise definition of one-piece, two-piece, split, reversibly screw-retained, cemented, bone-level, tissue-level, submerged — prerequisite for valid, comparable data.
For the first time across systems.
PMCF / PMS — universally deployable for the manufacturing side.
Finalized with leading international universities and centers — ratified during the 2026 Consensus Conference.

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
As President of the Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to invite you to the Global Congress of the ICBI. In 2020 I established our foundation under Swiss law, later renamed the ICBI — International Circle for Biological Implantology. From the beginning, the idea was to place the evident advantages that ceramic implants offer the surgeon on firm scientific ground.
The scientifically demanding work of the ICBI is carried out at the foundation level: the first Consensus Conference on Ceramic Implants in Nice, September 2025, together with our current retrospective and prospective studies — among the largest ever conducted in ceramic implantology. In the University of Mainz and Professor Al-Nawas, President-elect of the DGI, we have a strong academic partner; and in our board member Dr. Paul Henn, President of Next Generation DGI, a colleague within the university who is driving the studies forward.
In the short time since the Consensus Conference, a considerable number of papers have appeared in top-ranked journals, with more in preparation. The first analyses of the retrospective study — which we will present at the Global Congress — are exceptionally promising.
As our outward-facing, public instrument we founded the ICBI Association, which already counts some 150 members and draws on an exceptionally experienced, internationally composed board. The five board members will be confirmed in office by the general assembly immediately before the congress; as President of the Board of Trustees I therefore have the pleasure of extending this welcome myself, and of paving the way for our incoming President, Dr. Amerian Sones, and her team.
The World of EVIDENCE.
Alongside practical case presentations by the surgeons involved in the studies, the board presents the Consensus Conference and the studies grown out of it; robust results you can apply — medico-legally and ethically sound — in your own practice the very next Monday. Our membership looks back on some three decades of ceramic implantology and well over one hundred thousand ceramic implants placed. This is a movement you must not miss.

Over the next three years AI will change our lives, our thinking and our work more than the past three thousand years have. We intend to use it wisely — as a collective intelligence, for the benefit of our patients and the quality of our work.
